It’s easy to pick a band name that sounds like a conglomerate of energy and get the dancefloors going like never before.
The machine of Hervé Salters, the French founding leader of General Elektriks, turns with the precision of the best and most powerful funk bands. This is normal: it was born in the San Francisco Bay Area, where Hervé Salters settled at the end of the 1990s. The city of Sly Stone, the precursor with his Family.
When Hervé Slaters settled there, he already had a solid keyboard career behind him. His thing is the Clavinet C, an extraordinary keyboard whose keys sound like guitars. The absolute master of the Clavinet C and of Hervé Salters is Stevie Wonder. This vintage sound obviously interests the singer M, whom Hervé Salters will accompany on stage, or Femi Kuti, heir of Fela Kuti, the king of Nigerian funk.
In the early 2000s, the General Elektriks adventure was launched in California. Hervé Salters took his first steps in the role of singer, with his first hit in 2009: Raid the radio. But he doesn’t lock himself into a single genre: jazz, soul, funk, hip hop, electro, it doesn’t matter what it’s called, as long as it’s in tune. Old-fashioned, but with a twist, very much in touch with the times.
On stage, General Elektriks are pure energy. Hard to resist. Be sure to wear good shoes if you want to dance in peace.
