It will be very difficult to resist the crazy Mandingo kora of “New Breed”, the latest composition of James BKS, who happily mixes his urban Cameroonian roots with the cream of hip-hop. The enthusiastic reception he received at the closing concert of the last African Cup of Nations speaks volumes about the popularity of this artist and his ability to move the audience.
Why BKS? Because it stands for Best Kept Secret, an acronym spotted on the album of a legendary rapper. Because, it is in this hip-hop culture, that the young Frenchman installed in the United States, takes his first marks, by posting sounds, samples, and all kinds of sound bidouillages of his composition. The first interested is the rapper Akon. A prestigious collaboration which will bring others, just as classy; the young James BKS works then with Snoop Dog, or Puff Daddy. Before returning to France.
Where a very well kept secret awaits him. That of his birth and the identity of his biological father who is none other than the saxophone giant Manu Dibango. Coincidentally, they have the same producer. The reunion between father and son marks the return of James BKS, in contact with the music of his father, towards jazz, soul and his Cameroonian roots. He does not forget hip-hop for all that and adds the services of Idriss Elba, a brilliant actor and deejay who will play the remixes.
