Who is behind such an odd name? It is first and foremost a kaleidoscope combination of various musicians and influences. The band has been developing an accomplished and wholly open musical realm since 2006. They hail from a jazz lore that welcomes the new and the exhilarating while being exacting in terms of structure and language. It gives rise to a contemporary, urban, and festive take on jazz, an inventive and joyful music that is particularly original and exciting. Papanosh brings together New York saxophonist and poet Roy Nathanson and Cincinnati rapper and beat boxer Napoleon Maddox for a poetic and captivating show based on a simple idea: home as a refuge. “Home” is the intimate and warm place that everyone holds dear in their heart. The voices onstage are plural and manifold, they speak of others and of ourselves in a performance at once ebullient, inspirational, soulful, and free.
