Between jazz with an epic breath, rock energy and Arabic sounds, Sarāb combines the instrumental power with the hypnotizing voice of the young French-Syrian Climène Zarkan.
In the vein of jazz with an epic breath, Sarāb has conquered, over the course of powerfully vibrant concerts, a young and fervent audience. Exploding genres between rock and Arabic sounds, the project was born from the meeting between guitarist Baptiste Ferrandis and singer Climène Zarkan, Syrian by her father, trained at the conservatories of Damascus and Lyon. Sarāb refers to the “mirage” in Arabic, Climène’s “dream” of fusing her Middle Eastern musical history with Western music. By her side, a young generation of jazzmen whose superlative technique serves a love of hybrid music: Thibault Gomez on rhodes, Timothée Robert on bass, Paul Berne on drums, and Robinson Khoury whose trombone links wonderfully with Climène’s voice. A voice where a storm ferments, a voice that borrows from Syrian poets their bursts of verse. After a self-titled debut album in 2019, the album “Arwāh Hurra” (“free souls”) in 2021 and then an EP “I want the world to know” in 2023 nourish the remarkable journey of the group, which likes to surround itself with guests such as the Egyptian saz virtuoso Abdallah Abozekry. Endowed with a strong musical identity, Sarāb offers us his electrifying trance.
