Prince left us in 2016, but thanks to the New Power Generation we can relive Prince’s music live, exactly as they played it with the Minneapolis Kid.
Indeed, The New Power Generation, also known as “NPG”, is the group of musicians who accompanied Prince from 1990 to 2013. Prince officially introduced them during his “Nude Tour” in 1990, and they first officially appeared on record on the album “Diamonds & Pearls,” which was one of Prince’s biggest hits, both critically and commercially. During the two decades that they accompanied Prince (with a line-up that went through different configurations), they played all over the world and became one of the most admired bands in the world.
Upon Prince’s death, The New Power Generation (NPG) reformed for a memorable tribute concert in October 2016. Since then, under the musical direction of Morris Hayes (Of all the musicians who worked with Prince, Morris Hayes is the one Prince collaborated with the longest. Morris was already the musical director of NPG under Prince, and in fact is co-producer of the “new” Prince album entitled “Welcome 2 America” which was released last year on Sony Music.), and reinforced by the incredible vocalist MacKenzie, the band has made it their mission to keep the music they played and composed with the Purple Prince alive.
