Last year, Marseille Jazz des cinq continents and Conservatoire Pierre Barbizet joined forces to inaugurate “JazzClub 222”. A memorable experience!
This year, the club will open its doors from 10pm to 2am on July 11, 12 and 13. In the courtyard of the Conservatoire, like a jewel box, the curious will be able to witness moments such as can only be found in clubs. In all, 4 hours of jazz per evening, with a varied and solid program, and a convivial atmosphere for the concerts, masterclasses and jam sessions we love so much.
The program for the evening of July 12 :
Opening with the Conservatoire Jazz Class
Every evening on stage, a resident group formed by students of the Jazz Class opens the performance, offering the opportunity to discover young talents bursting with energy.
Prospectus – Winner Jazz Migration #9
Prospectus is collectively conceived, with improvisation and repetitiveness as its main components. Prospectus takes its name from one of the live albums recorded by the brilliant Steve Lacy. The winners of the Jazz Migration program openly claim to be influenced by the American free music scene. A freedom that transports us unabashedly into the history of jazz, but with their jazz!
Concert offered as part of Jazz Migration, a program to support emerging jazz and improvised music musicians run by AJC, with the support of the French Ministry of Culture, BNP Paribas Foundation, SACEM, ADAMI, SPEDIDAM, CNM, SPPF and Institut Français.
Music is My Field From Atlanta to Marseille
Presented by the “Reverence” collective (Atlanta), Kebbi Williams, Raphaël Imbert, and musicians from Marseille’s Conservatoire Pierre Barbizet.
In the life of a musician and music lover, it’s quite rare to say to oneself “What I’m hearing here, I’ve never heard before! Raphaël Imbert and his team had this uncommon and precious impression one Sunday evening in April 2023 at Gallery992, in Atlanta (Georgia, USA), where they were present as part of their Music is My Field project produced by Compagnie Nine Spirit and supported by Villa Albertine. Gallery992, a venue created for and by artists, who come together under the name Reverence, whose motto is explicit:
“Reverence’s mission is to perpetuate the tradition of non-verbal language through improvisation and to inspire the open-mindedness and spirit of its audience to venture into new musical territories yet to be explored.”
And these new territories are definitely there! Imagine Sun Ra integrating Atlanta hip-hop, and you’ll have an idea of how to improvise.
For this Jazz Club, the Reverence collective travels to Marseille, a city that resonates effectively with the collective’s call, to meet local artists, and to open a jam session in a new format: open to all, with one principle, posted on the walls of Gallery992: “No Cover, No Request! Just play! An original transatlantic link with a great future, between two great cities that share the same passion for art, and intense, unprecedented moments in store. An experience not to be missed!
Evening in partnership with Villa Albertine and AMI, and in co-production with Conservatoire Pierre Barbizet – an INSEAMM institution – and Nine Spirit.
