Parcours Métropolitain

J.P. Bimeni & The Black Belts

30 March 2022 By

Apostle of soul, rythm & blues and the god Otis Redding, J.P. Bimeni returns with a second album, “Give Me Hope”, full of optimism and communicative energy. J.P. Bimeni, the soul of Africa, oscillates between the classic Motown of the 60s and the soul, psychedelia and Afro-funk inspired by Stax. He has a sunny voice that touches the soul, his deep consciousness and vulnerability are fully displayed without losing the pop sensibility.

An evening with the support of the Metropole Aix-Marseille-Provence and the city of Cornillon-Confoux.

New Things Septet

22 March 2022 By

Born from the joint impulse of professors and students of the jazz department of the Marseille Conservatory, the New Things Septet evokes the Afro-American artistic abundance of the dawn of the 60s, at the source of post-bop and free-jazz. Compositions by Roland Kirk, George Russell or Ornette Coleman are the ground for open and embodied improvisations from which emerge a modern and energetic sound.

Voice Messengers

30 March 2022 By

We left the Voice Messengers with an explosive interpretation of Vladimir Cosma’s “Marius and Fanny”, and they return with their repertoire in which the writing allows several different sections to be heard simultaneously in counterpoint, recalling the energy, the colour and above all the spirit of the great jazz orchestras, from Duke Ellington to Quincy Jones via Count Basie. In the manner of the instrumentalists, the singers take it in turns to deliver their personal interpretation of an eclectic repertoire: a cocktail of rearranged standards or extracts from musicals.

An evening with the support of the Métropole Aix-Marseille-Provence and the town of Châteauneuf-les-Martigues.

Portico Quartet

30 March 2022 By

Portico Quartet
Portico Quartet is still an impossible band to categorise. Their journey through the major labels over 9 albums proves it. They are four – Jack Wyllie, Milo Fitzpatrick, Duncan Bellamy, and Keir Vine – they are British and masters of improvisation. If they often infiltrate repetitive music close to electro, they know how to evolve on the freshness of intuition. The result is unique concerts where the atmosphere is primordial and powerful. It is on stage that Le Portico practices its science of bewitchment.

Romain Morello Sextet
Head of the jazz department at the Marseille Conservatory, trombonist and arranger Romain Morello brings together five excellent jazzmen from the regional scene. Through arrangements of repertoires from the 50s to the 70s, they interpret together the tradition in a contemporary language. Trained in the sounds of the Big Bands and Jazz Messengers, Romain Morello combines the voices of three virtuoso blowers with a roaring rhythm section to create a powerful collective energy.

An evening with the support of the Métropole Aix-Marseille-Provence and the town of Jouques.

Matthis Pascaud & Hugh Coltman

30 March 2022 By

In this grimy and mystical New Orleans, Dr. John was the Great Zombie. Matthis Pascaud and Hugh Coltman are the last victims of the wizard with the hoarse voice. There, in a kitchen, around a large pile of records, the two stop on Babylon and Gris-Gris, the founding acts of the Dr. John legend. Together they dive in to extract a sulphurous mix of the folklore of this mythical city, the electric atmosphere of the band and the suave voice of Hugh.

An evening with the support of the Metropole Aix-Marseille-Provence and the city of Vauvenargues.
